Palace of International Forums "Uzbekistan"
The Tashkent Palace of International Forums "Uzbekistan" has probably been seen by everyone who has walked around the center of the Uzbek capital. The building is located in the very heart of the city — not far from Amir Temur Square and Hotel "Uzbekistan". The palace attracts tourists with its monumental appearance and interesting facade design, on which one can see references to national architecture.
History of the palace
In the past, there were several structures on the site of the huge palace building. On the Internet, they write that there was a brick residential building built in the 20th century here. Old photographs show that there was another building here, marked as the "first telephone exchange in the city".
The modern Palace of International Forums was built in 2009. The grand opening took place on August 28 of the same year. The event was timed to coincide with the celebration of the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The palace is a huge snow-white building with facades facing four streets. Near the entrances, you can see high columns and carved doors made in the national style. The building is crowned with a dome 53 meters in diameter. At the very top of the dome, there is a sculpture of a flock of storks — a traditional symbol of peace, happiness, and well-being.
Inside the structure, there are premises for holding various events. The main hall of the palace can accommodate 2,500 people. There is no free entrance for tourists to the palace; you can get inside during concerts or other events.
After getting acquainted with the palace building, you can, for example, take a look at the Tashkent Chimes or go on an excursion to the Museum of the History of Timurids.
