Tashkent mosaics

Surely many travelers visiting Tashkent have noticed the unusual bright mosaic panels on the facades of residential buildings. On some buildings, you can see abstract pictures, while the mosaics on other houses are real picturesque canvases. If you have already explored the main attractions of the city, you can easily build a walking route to take a few photos of these unusual art objects.

Mosaics of Tashkent: architectural heritage

Mosaics on the facades of Tashkent houses began to appear after the devastating earthquake of 1966. At that time, masters from many Soviet republics flocked to rebuild the city. Thus, the Zharsky brothers appeared in the Uzbek capital — artists who established the tradition of decorating Tashkent's residential buildings with mosaic panels.

According to the authors' idea, mosaic panels were meant to bring bright colors to the monotonous development of the city's new residential neighborhoods. Despite the fact that the city authorities initially reacted to the project rather coolly, today these bright objects have become a part of Tashkent's architectural code.

Just a few years ago, some of the city's mosaics were covered by advertising structures. Now the situation has changed, and citizens can once again admire these unusual images.

Mosaic panels are scattered throughout the city, but you can find several houses with mosaics closer to the center of the capital. There are several interesting images, for example, on the buildings on Babur Street. Nearby are modern recreation areas — the Seoul Mun promenade and Magic City park.
