History of the complex

Muhammad Sultan, for whom they began to build the mausoleum, died in 1403. The beloved grandson was supposed to become the heir to the throne, but it so happened that he died before his grandfather.

Amir Temur himself passed away in early 1405. At the time of the commander's death, the mausoleum was not yet completed. The body of the ruler was temporarily placed in a khanqah (guesthouse). Over time, the complex turned into the tomb of the Timurids: the sons, grandsons, and spiritual mentor of Amir Temur were buried here. Also, there are unknown burials here.

In addition to the mentioned khanqah, the complex in the past included a madrasah — this is the name of Muslim educational institutions. Today, tourists can see only the main building of the architectural ensemble — a mausoleum with a burial hall. In addition, guests have the opportunity to walk around the territory of the complex and take photos at the portal leading to the courtyard. Travelers can stroll here on their own or use the services of guides.

From the mausoleum, you can walk to Registan Square or drive to the Shakhi Zinda mausoleum ensemble. These attractions are also considered the calling cards of Samarkand.
