Shukhov Tower in Bukhara
Among the ancient buildings in the central part of Bukhara, one interesting structure stands out — the metal tower of engineer Shukhov. In the past, the tower was a water tower, but today it has turned into an unusual tourist attraction with an observation deck.
Shukhov Tower: from the past to the present
Engineer Vladimir Grigoryevich Shukhov is known for his numerous structures. He participated in the erection of structures for commercial and public buildings, developed projects for industrial facilities, and built amazing towers. One of his most famous structures is probably the tower for the Comintern radio station on Shabolovka in Moscow.
The high-rise structure in Bukhara appeared in 1929. Initially, the Shukhov Tower in Bukhara was a water tower. In 1975, a fire occurred here, destroying the wooden casing of the building. Over time, the tower was restored, and today anyone can visit this unusual place.
On the ground floor of the tower, you can see several historical photographs of this structure. An elevator takes tourists to the upper tier. Several historical monuments of Bukhara can be seen from the observation deck. Interestingly, signs indicating the direction and distance to other cities of the world are installed here. Taking the elevator to the observation deck is paid; tickets are purchased at the ticket office on the ground floor.
Since the tower is located in the center of Bukhara, you can easily walk from it to other interesting places in the city. Right opposite the tower, for example, is the Ark Citadel. A ten-minute walk away is the Poi-Kalyan architectural ensemble.
